The Codorníu family has been in the wine business since the 16th century. In 1659, Anna Codorníu married Miquel Raventós, uniting two wine traditions. In 1872, Josep Raventós produced Spain's first cava using the "traditional method." The Codorníu cellars, built between 1895 and 1915 by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, initially seemed grandiose but ensured quality by being close to vineyards. Today, Codorníu controls the entire cava production process with modern facilities.
